I recently read a study that found that people's perceptions of their selfies were vastly more favorable than strangers' perceptions of those same selfies. In other words, if you're counting on that shot you made with your phone--you know, the one with the arm extended in front of you--to represent you well on Facebook or Tinder or anywhere else, you may need to think again. On the other hand, maybe a studio shot is too formal for those media. I like working with clients to shoot casual, on-location portraits that look like maybe a good friend took them with an phone--and got very lucky.
